Who are the High Support MAND classes for?
Nov 02, 2024High Support MAND classes (Modified And NeuroDivergent) are for students who benefit from physical modification due to physical abilities and/or class modification due to mental abilities.
These classes are capped at 2 students allowing for a lot of one-on-one coach interaction. Parents are asked to stay and be present for any support needed.
Who might be a good fit for a High Support MAND class:
- An individual that would benefit from modified moves physically or physical support from a coach and/or parent. The beauty of parkour is that the goal is to overcome obstacles and go over, under, and through things; this can be modified from as simple as a line on the ground, to a balance trainer 1 inch from the ground, to a tire and various levels in between or beyond.
- An individual who emotionally would benefit from increased coach support. This could include modifications of activities to include a students specific interests and likes. It could include a specialized plan made with the coach and parent to add elements specific to the individual that would help motivate them and help them enjoy movement.
- A child who is easily overwhelmed and would benefit from a tiny class (capped at 2).
Students can transition from a High Support MAND class to a Low Support MAND class when the parent and coach agree it would set the child up for success.
Our High Support MAND classes are a beautiful opportunity for students with longterm physical and mental challenges (down syndrome, autism, and a variety of lifelong impacting physical and mental situations). It is also a powerful tool for Neurodivergent individuals with more severe challenges that can be overcome with time and practice exercising the parkour mindset. These students may start in a High Support MAND class and then move to a Low Support MAND class as they progress. Our community is a safe and welcoming place. Our coaches quickly bond with students and relate to them in a way that brings out the best in each child.
