My Child is Has Autism or Dyslexia, What Now?
Mar 06, 2025Often a diagnoses from a doctor or label from a teacher can feel like a death sentence. Diagnoses and labels are handed out in our society so nonchalantly as if to say, "Here is the limit we have placed on your child, accept it and move on."
One of the most important things for a parent of a child with any kind of neurological challenge, learning difficulty, or other challenges to remember is it is all a fluid spectrum. A label is not a death sentence. A label is a tool to 1) help you better understand what is going on and 2) know how to better help your child.
Brains are malleable. They have neuroplasticity which mean over time you can change the neurological pathways and train the brain to fire differently than it currently does. While this may not mean curing all learning difficulties or neurodivergent challenges what it DOES mean is reducing the impact these challenges have on a child's life. It means increasing the quality of life for the child and their caregivers. It means small wins and steps in the right direction. It means hope that things can improve. Things might not get easy, smooth sailing and perfect, but they can get better. There is hope.
Our Level Parkour program offers a unique alternative therapy opportunity for children with learning difficulties and moderate neurological challenges. Our MAND classes (Modified and Neurodivergent) offer an opportunity for students who need more coach attention and modifications to work in an environment that helps them be successful and enjoy creating new neurological pathways that help them create small win after small win! Seeing small wins can reduce stress and improve a child's overall mental health even outside of parkour class.
Our Early Childhood Program is packed full of neuro development activities that help toddlers and preschoolers lay a foundation of neuro pathways that trigger brain development and reduce the effects of neurological challenges that are starting to become noticeable.
