Neurodivergence and Parkour (Part 2) - A Place to Call Their Own
Nov 04, 2024Parkour offers a unique environment that many individuals that have felt left out and like a "misfit" in other settings quickly feel at peace with. It often becomes a safe place for these individuals.
Parkour attracts people who do not fit the mold. There is a lot of out of the box thinking and a lot of individual expression in parkour. Many challenges do not have a right and wrong answer, but instead a surplus of possible options and many ways to conquer a specific challenge. Because we do not have all the rules that gymnastics has, people who enjoy moving at their own beat often find parkour exciting and attractive.
Our Parkour community at Parkour East Texas specifically quickly becomes a safe space for Neurodivergent friends because of our commitment to positivity and uplifting interactions between ALL students and coaches and community members. We have many on our coaching team that are neurodivergent and/or have/are dealing with physical challenges. Our coaches are eager to extend a hand to an individual who feels like they just don't fit in and help them find a way to make parkour their own and into their safe space.
