The Investment Resulting in Emotional Regulation Skills
Nov 05, 2024One of the many benefits of being part of a strong parkour community is a child's growth with emotional regulation skills. Our coaches at Parkour East Texas carefully and strategically create an environment that gives each individual child room to be challenged and encouraged in a positive manner while learning to interact with a variety of emotions. Frustration gets to be engaged with in a positive manner. Automatic negative thoughts are retrained to positive pathways that eventually automate positive thoughts where "I can't" and "It's too hard" used to fire on autopilot. Team challenges push students in uncomfortable ways and require humility, communication, grace, and patience. Our team challenges are a controlled environment that allow interaction with the challenges of working with others in a protected and safe space. The natural leader who is learning that leading is more than being the person who talks the most has opportunities to learn to lead quietly, to lead by support and to lead by following. The natural follower gets to learn they too have a valuable voice and that they bring ideas and skills of value that the whole team can benefit from. The growth process is interacted with in a positive and even exciting way on a regular basis. This helps students develop a positive mindset around challenge, set back, failure, and putting in work to receive the reward. This helps students learn instead of shutting down or becoming mad and frustrated when they don't get something right to instead appreciate the growth process and look forward to finding ways they can improve.
