Why Parkour?

Sep 11, 2024

Parkour is mindset. It’s a lens through which we see life and challenges. It’s a mindset through which we interact with others and ourselves. This is “Why Parkour”.

Parkour helps us learn to give ourselves grace. It helps us understand when we first try something we will probably not be very good at something. AND THAT IS OK. It helps us learn to be humble without self-deprecation. It helps us understand the growth process and that everyone, no matter how good, always has room to grow.

Parkour helps us see obstacles as opportunities instead of dead ends. It encourages us to seek out challenges as a way of becoming better. Parkour helps us learn that the only way to get better is to embrace the uncomfortableness and push through to the other side.

Parkour let’s us celebrate our individuality. In parkour you will have some areas that come naturally and other areas that seem awkward, difficult and almost impossible at times. In parkour you can take what you are good at and enjoy making it better while also taking what you are not as good at and enjoy challenging yourself to become better in those areas. Unlike gymnastics, parkour doesn’t have a bunch of rules. In class we learn movement principles and best practices; however, we can then take those tools in our toolbox and make our on creative movement.

Why Parkour? Because it gives individuals a community to belong to. A thing to call their own. It celebrates individuality and encourages growth as a person physically, emotionally, and socially.

Parkour is also an incredible therapy for students with processing struggles, ADHD, Autism and lack of coordination.

Parkour helps children with low self-esteem develop confidence and enjoy being brave.

Why Parkour? Because it changes lives and helps us be the best version of ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
